IELA Standards Survey: New On-Site Agent Category

01/04/2019

The 2018 IELA Standards Survey will include a new category to specifically benchmark the service of On-site Agents.

Every year, IELA invites all its members to evaluate the services that other IELA Members have supplied to them during the previous year. This is carried out by means of the IELA Standards Survey.

The data gathered is analysed to produce benchmarking averages which inform members on whether their services are above or below the IELA average, according to the opinions of their industry colleagues.

Until now, the IELA Standards Survey was divided in two categories: Domestic Agent and Export Agent, for the first time, a third category has been created to rate the performance of the On-site Agent.

Dominique Geiser, Chair of the IELA Standards and Customs Working Group (S&CWG) explains “The inclusion of this new On-site Agent category was the wish of several members who have approached the IELA Board of Management to have the Domestic Agent survey split into two categories. Since not all domestic agents are doing the on-site work themselves, some of the questions are not applicable to their work or would even be misleading. The split of the survey will give more transparency to the results and the whole membership.

This third category has the same format as the other two and it includes seven questions established by the Standards & Customs Working Group and the Board to define the On-site Agent evaluation criteria. This new category strengthens our unique benchmarking tool, emphasizing the specific work of the On-site agent.

Any Domestic Agent subcontracting the handling at the fairground does not register as an On-site Agent but as Domestic Agent only. More details will follow once the system is running and ready.

Daniel Mithran, Vice Chair of the S&C WG, commented about the new On-site category: “It would specifically highlight the on-site skills of the IELA Members instead of generalising this into a Domestic Agent category that combines all services within a country. The on-site skills are very important and an integral part of the service level provided by an agent as it is the end result. IELA Members will benefit from this as it differentiates the actual on-site working agents from the rest and allows their peers to grade them.

Starting soon, all IELA Members are invited to access their Member Zone to take part in the survey, and engage their peers to survey them before May 31st!

The winners of all three categories will be revealed in Venice during the IELA Gala Dinner & Awards Night on June 25th 2019!
